The EEMI is proud to be counted as a charter member of the GWU Sustainability Collaborative, that oversees all sustainability-related activities and programs at GWU under the leadership of its Executive Director, Dr. Kathleen Merrigan. In addition. The EEMI interacts extensively with the following additional GW environmental and energy programs:
Sustainability-related Graduate Offerings
Sustainability Minor: The 18-credit Minor in Sustainability prepares students to apply the sustainability perspective to their future endeavors.
Planet Forward: The Planet Forward program at the GW Center for Innovative Media brings together experts and engaged citizens to find and innovatively communicate solutions in the areas of energy, climate, and sustainability.
Solar Institute: The GW Solar Institute identifies, generates, and shares pragmatic policy solutions to enable solar energy to reach its full potential for creating jobs, replacing fossil fuels, and realizing a sustainable energy future.
SEAS CEE Department: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering explores solutions to improve access to clean water; design intelligent transportation systems and alleviate traffic congestion; improve the crash-worthiness of cars, including electric vehicles; and design bridges that are more earthquake-resistant.
College of Professional Studies: The Graduate Certificate in Climate Change Management and Policy is tailored to students seeking a credential in the field but who are not in need of a complete master’s degree. The certificate consists of six courses - a sequence of four required courses plus two more. The electives allow students to engage with the broader Sustainable Urban Planning Program.
Columbian College – ENRP: The Energy Resource Policy Program prepares students to enter environmental policy careers in government, non-profit organizations, the private sector, and environmental advocacy groups.
Elliott School – NR&E: The Natural Resources and the Environment Program prepares students for challenging global careers through training in the theory and practice of international affairs focused on economic, political, scientific, and cultural issues.
Law School – E&E Law: The Environmental and Energy Law program provides next generation environmental and energy lawyers with the tools they need to tackle climate change, fisheries depletion, air pollution, water scarcity, and developing new sources of energy.
School of Business – ICR: The Institute for Corporate Responsibility is devoted to the development and dissemination of scholarship, including research and teaching pertaining to corporate responsibility.
Milken Institute – EHS&P: The Environmental Health Science and Policy program prepares graduates to analyze implications of policies relating to occupational health, to participate in policy development and to access and manage environmental and occupational risks to protect workers, the public and the environment from toxic substances and dangerous conditions.
GW Food Institute promotes research, education, and service programs for healthy eating, sustainable food production, and food policy.
GW Office of Sustainability: The Office of Sustainability provides a strategic home at the George Washington University for sustainability in practice and in action. Projects are implemented in partnership with stakeholders across the organization. George Washington University seeks to engage the world by exploring the important issues of our time including policy and governance for sustainability with a vision to create resource systems that are healthy and thriving for all. Through efforts underway in operations, teaching, research, and outreach, the university is committed to being a model of sustainability.
